Hello, Friend!

My name is Melissa. I have been happily married to my husband, Scott, for over 25 years, and we have nine children ~ some of whom we adopted. I am excited to share my experiences with you and the lessons my husband and I learn as we navigate through many life challenges.

From caring for children with various physical and developmental challenges to developing healthier interactions within our relationships, I hope that my stories can help you feel less alone in your own struggles. As I share some of the insights I've gained through my life journey, I hope that I can also encourage you in your faith. As a Christian, I get how our relationship with God can convict, strengthen, and sustain us through all the ups and downs. It is my prayer that this blog will inspire you to seek an intimate relationship with God because He cares for you and about all you are going through!

Cast your cares on the LORD, and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken. (Psalm 55:22 - NIV)

My Story

Scott and I have had to work hard to create a healthier marital relationship after surviving painful childhoods filled with dysfunction. As I continue to grow older, I realize that the hard work we put into our marriage must also be applied to my other relationships. Even in adulthood, I have struggled to recognize emotional and psychological abuse and neglect within my relationships. Eventually, my experiences led to a decline in my mental and physical health, so I decided to seek the truth about my relationships and started making changes. Through my seeking, I have learned that being a Christian does not require me to also be a doormat! I have learned that love involves healthy boundaries and standards so that those involved in the relationship can thrive.

Additionally, my husband and I understand the unique challenges of raising a family, including raising children with physical, developmental, or mental health challenges. We have children diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, Autism, and/or mental health challenges. As a mom to many children and a mom to children with varying abilities, I understand the pressures, worries, heartache, and joyous celebrations that we, as parents, go through.

In my blog, I will write about some of my most vulnerable experiences and the lessons I learned from them while incorporating how my faith has helped me navigate life's difficult challenges. I will also share insights on ways we can invest in healthier relationships with our friends, family, and community. Ultimately, I want you to feel encouraged, supported and inspired in your relationships with God and others.
